The Northern California Rover Club (NCRC) is once again proud to invite all Land Rover owners on a camping trip and rally in the wilds of deepest San Francisco. Conceived as a counterpoint to the usual off-road Land Rover rally held in sparsely populated forests and deserts, Urban Adventure II seeks to highlight anew the excitement and beauty -- natural and otherwise -- found among the towering high-rises and babbling fountains of Baghdad-by-the-Bay.
We will camp at the incredible Rob Hill campground, nestled among the trees in the "Jewel of the Pacific" and the newest addition of the United States National Park Service, the Presidio. This spacious campsite offers all the amenities, including ample parking, picnic tables, barbecue grills, a fire circle, port-a-potties, and water. Nearby views of the Golden Gate Bridge, the California coastline, and the Pacific Ocean offer excellent photo opportunities.
We will experience all the joys of Land Rover rallies, including camaraderie, conversation, companionship, and community while enjoying the traditional outdoor activities: cook-outs, caravanning, and camping under the stars. Last year's event received international acclaim, including extensive coverage in the March 1999 issue of Land Rover Magazine (LRM).
Planned activities include a photo shoot on Lombard Street, a caravan across the Golden Gate Bridge, awards and prizes, children's activities, and lots of good company. Food will be among the highlights of the weekend. Meals include a pancake breakfast, a barbecue at a yacht club, even Chinese food delivered to the campsite! Everything will be provided: food, utensils, and dishes.
Whether you're a die-hard gonzo off-highway enthusiast seeking a damage-free event or the more sedate concours type, this weekend promises to be a grand time.
