Uncle Roger's
Notebooks of Daily Life

February 21, 2001

It's been interesting, lately, and yet, it's been quiet.

Mike has decided to not even bother returning our phone calls. So now we take legal action. Coincidentally, I got an e-mail from someone looking to buy a floating billboard. Sucks to be Mike!

We went ahead and refinanced. We're getting just under a hundred grand in cash, with payments about the same as we had before. That's what can happen when you combine two loans with rates of 8.5% and around 10% into a single loan at 7.125%.

Rachel's still worried about the putzes, but despite even Paul's blustering, we haven't heard a word from them. They haven't even bothered to pick up their holiday gifts from their father. They're the ones missing out, of course. Sucks to be the sibs.

Meanwhile, we're working on plans for Dad's 75th birthday party at the beginning of June. The putzes will, of course, get an invitation, (it's Dad's party, not mine,) but I'm not going to waste my time consulting with them about the arrangements. Still sucks to be them.

The party is going to be at Stern Grove, and I seriously hope that Indy is up and running by then. I think we'll get Dad a nice, comfy chair to hang out in for the duration. He won't be able to walk by then, of course, but we can transfer him to something more comfortable -- and dignified -- than an old wheelchair. I think it will turn out to be an excellent opportunity for some good pictures.

As if his turning 75 wasn't enough, he is also going to have a (second) Bar Mitzvah! Yep, that one caught me by surprise too. Seems he wants to learn more about judaism and get back in touch with his birth religion. Well, like my friend Del says, the older you get, the more you think about the hereafter.

(He says he'll be walking down the hall, when he'll stop and think to himself, "Now, what am I here after?")

So Dad's Bar Mitzvah is May 19th, his birthday is the 27th, the party is June 2nd, and on top of that, Rachel will be finishing her Master's thesis in mid-May. And, as Rachel pointed out, the 15th is our wedding anniversary. It's going to be a busy month, that's for sure.
