I've felt for some time that it would be very cool to have an online journal, and even tried it for a while back in about 1995, with a weekly log of what was planned for the upcoming weekend and what had actually happened on the prior one.
The problem I ran into, however, was one of time. As with much of my web work, I don't always have the time to get things done, and when I do have a bit of time, I may not be in the mood to wax philosophical or reminisce and record.
At some point, however, in mid-1999, shortly after my father's second stroke of that year, I came to the realization that journal entries need not be a daily, weekly, or monthly event, or even a regularly scheduled task. A diary can be something updated when events warrant and when the fits.
And so was born, one morning on an east-bound BART train, my notebooks of daily life. Note that daily refers to not so much a time period as it does a state of existence. This log will not be limited to extraordinary events, but observances of normalcy, such as it is in my life.
And so, as they say, on with the show!
