Hey kids! Join us at Modern Times to explore the lives of kids around the world. Find out what kind of bread Nabil and Amalia love to help make in Everybody Bakes Bread, by Norah Dodley. Learn a new joke from the hilarious book Laughing Together: Giggles and Grins from Around the Globe, by Barbara Walker. As always, we'll have stories, games, and snacks!

Remember King and Lumumba
Main Library, Koret Auditorium, 100 Larkin St.
An event commemorating the birth of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. (January 15, 1929) and the assassination of the first Prime Minister of the Congo, Patrice Lumumba (January 17, 1961). The Program features keynote speaker Professor Manu Ampim, local author of books on African history and African American community development. There will also be a screening of "Guimba the Tyrant," a film set in Mali which presents an epic allegory that speaks to the abuse of power and a call for true leadership to move forward.
