Cassie's Picture
Every proud parent has tons of pictures of their kids in their wallet, but I prefer them in my computer, in digital form. So here's some pictures of and info about my niece, Cassie.

Cassie recently graduated from pre-school; next fall she goes to kindergarten. She'll turn five in November 1999, but she's definitely ready, both socially and educationally.

Flash! As of January 4, 1999, Cassie can now read! Last night, she read me most of the book that comes with the Interactive Reading Journey software. Now certainly, just over 4 years old is no record for learning to read, but it shows she's no slouch either!

Cassie is now 4 years old. She had her 4th birthday party at the Jungle, with a lot of her friends, and had a blast running around, crawling through tunnels, and generally creating a ruckus. She went to see the Annie and the Wizard of Oz on stage, when they were in town, and loved both. She dressed up as Dorothy for holloween.

She still loves Shirley Temple movies; I think she's about ready to get into the Marx brothers. Her musical tastes are still fairly eclectic. She likes everything from Steve and Greg to the Jeff Naideau Band, Vivaldi to Gershwin. We're going to go see Mighty Joe Young together because it has Land Rovers in it.

She's a little upset that her Auntie and Uncle are getting married -- it means she won't get to live with Auntie any more. I told her that she can come visit at Pa's house any time she wants, and she can even sleep over!

She's a still big hit backstage with the Young People's Teen Musical Theatre Company, even though she's already performed herself. She enjoys playing the piano, her bongos, and her xylophone, as well as singing and acting.

For my birthday, Cassie drew me a wonderful picture of me, Auntie Rae, and Cassie, with a really spiffy Land Rover. She is really quite the little artist, and while she is still learning to read, she writes well when someone tells her what letters to use.

She loves visiting with my Dad (whom she calls Pa.) When she comes to visit in the morning, she orders him out of bed and proceeds to boss him around, making up -- and changing -- the rules to the games they play. My dad loves it, but she can really wear him out in just a couple of hours.
