When you think of Land Rovers, you naturally think of exotic and
dangerous locales such as the Kalahari desert or the Australian
Outback. But San Francisco is certainly just as exotic and
dangerous as those, in it's own way. To celebrate and explore
this Urban Jungle, the
San Francisco Urban Adventure
was born. Find out about this year's event, or take a look
back at prior Adventures.

One of the best blues-rock bands around is a local San Francisco group
called
Johnny Nitro and the Doorslammers.
You can check out what's on their albums and where they're playing.
You definitely don't want to miss them! (And I'm not just saying that
because Johnny Nitro is my cousin.)

The computer has -- and will continue to have -- as big an impact on
society as the automobile, telephone, and television combined. The
breakneck speed at which this industry has developed has left little
time for reflection and retrospective. Now, however, many industry
old-timers have come forward to begin chronicling and preserving the
remnants of the early days. One such attempt is
Uncle Roger's Classic Computers.

Classic Commercial Signage in San Francisco is the subject of
Signs of the Time,
a collection of photographs of business signage that are as much art
as advertising. Take a step back in time -- and in some cases,
without leaving the present -- and enjoy these examples of an era when
filling a need was more important than making a buck.

The
Free List
is a weekly listing of free things to do in San Francisco.
Concerts, lectures, films, museums, and more all take place free
and open to the public. The Free List brings them all together
in a handy weekly listing, distributed via e-mail or available
on the Web.

Personalized license plates
are no longer an anomaly. While certainly not ubiquitous, they
are becoming commonplace. My Land Rover has one, as do the
vehicles of many of my friends and family. This site is a
chance to explore the creative side of vehicle licensing.

Okay, so I'm obsessed with Land Rovers. But at least I'm not alone, and
there's plenty of resources on the Internet. Two of the best are the
RoverWeb
and
Lloyd Allison's
Land Rover Pages. Another link to check out is
Wilde EVolutions,
who have converted a series Land Rover to run on electric power. One
of the coolest Land Rovers around belongs to
TeriAnn Wakeman.

great tap dancers, listings of upcoming events, and more.
Everyone feels like tapping their toes at least once in a while;
check this out and you may end up doing it more often!

Believe it or not, animated GIF's can be a Good Thing. The
absolute best use of GIF animation I've seen on the web is
definitely the
Animated Guide to Dressage,
along with the
Animated Dictionary of ASL
(American Sign Language).

If you want to see some of the best examples of what the World
Wide Web can be on a personal level, take a look at the
People Chase
webring. To join this ring, you must have either outstanding
content or incredible design. The very best sites have both and
get the Gestalt award. One of my favorites is
Tim Harincar's
which is the site that introduced me to People Chase. Another
fantastic site belongs to author
Karawynn Long
and is well worth a visit.
