Miss Grilley's Classroom

Imagine an environment where all children work together to meet a common goal. This goal is called learning. Teaching a split class can be challenging but inspiring. Children learn from one another and all have something to offer to the classroom.

Imagine a child beginning each day with music and movement. Children can express their individuality while learning skills at the same time. Imagine singing about the alphabet and numbers while seeing it in the environment at the same time. Children help one another throughout the song so that they can be successful. Imagine bringing literature to life through song and transforming into the characters through the music.

Imagine a child learning on the computers in the classroom. All children can benefit from learning reading, language, math, science, social studies, art, music, spelling but most importantly problem solving skills on the computer which can meet their individual needs in a nonthreatening manner.

Imagine a child who can work with his or her peers to solve a problem. Children can handle their own conflicts and make their own decisions.

Imagine a child as a teacher. Children can take the skills they learned and teach others in a positive manner.

If you can imagine all of this, you can imagine a typical day in Miss Grilley's kindergarten and first grade class in Room 15 at Garden Village School.
